Otterhound Litter & Title Statistics
The numbers of individual Otterhounds and litters listed below reflect only Otterhounds included in this database.
Columns contain the year, then numbers for that year of Otterhounds whelped in the US/number registered with AKC,
number of litters in the US, number of new champions, number of obedience titles, number of tracking titles, number
of Otterhounds whelped in Canada, number of litters, number of new champions, number of Otterhounds whelped in the UK,
number of litters and number of new champions. US titles refer only to AKC titles. These numbers start with 1937,
the year that Dr. Hugh Mouat began the first serious Otterhound breeding program in North America.
Though there are records available for the UK for earlier years and a limited amount of information for Otterhounds
in the US, the earlier data is more likely to be incomplete. The last 30 years or so of data should include a pretty
accurate count of litters, but many of the individual OHs whelped are not included in the
database and therefor are not included in this tally. Numbers when incorrect should generally be too low. AKC
registration statistics include dogs which may not be included in the database, as well as imported dogs, and dogs
whelped in and living in Canada but shown in the US - also, pups and/or litters whelped late in the year often are
not registered until the next. Data on the number of championships earned per year in Canada prior to 1986 is not
currently included. Otterhounds were not eligible to compete for championships in the UK prior to 1988.
